Calgary is ranked the best city in which to live in North America, and the fourth best in the world, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a division of The Economist newspaper. And as a primary gateway to the region, YYC is often the newcomer’s first impression of the city. It should always be a positive reflection of the Calgary experience.

“This ranking shows how the city of Calgary is viewed from a global perspective,” says Bob Sartor, President of The Calgary Airport Authority. “As such a key element of the city, we have a role to play in both reflecting our city’s stature, and in ensuring the best possible guest experience to both visitors and residents alike.

A world leader in global business and intelligence, the EIU ranks 140 cities based on a number of criteria, the main five being stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. This year three Canadian cities made the top 10: Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto.

In a Global News interview, Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi said, “While we always work to be better, let’s remember what an amazing community that generations of Calgarians – public servants and private citizens alike – have built for us all to enjoy.”

We’re well on our way to welcoming over 17 million guests through our airport in 2018, and the ranking and associated publicity may just bring more new visitors to the city from around the globe. We’ll be ready.
