National Volunteer Week: Ranj, White Hatter

Today, as part of National Volunteer Week. we're celebrating Ranj who's been volunteering as a White Hatter for almost as long as he's lived in Alberta.

Age: 29 years old

How long have you been volunteering for YYC?

I joined the White Hat Volunteer team in August 2018.

How often do you volunteer?

I volunteer once per week, every Thursday from 6 - 10 p.m.

Why do you volunteer at YYC?

Even before I moved to Canada, I've always had a genuine passion for volunteering. I love meeting and helping people. I find volunteering at YYC very exciting and I feel like I've been able to gain so much experience since becoming an official member of the White Hat Volunteers.

What is your favourite experience/story you've had while volunteering at YYC?

My favourite experiences while volunteering is when guests arriving from other parts of the world come up to us and ask to take pictures or selfies. I also find the White Hat Ceremonies to be really exciting and I've had the privilege to be a part of two ceremonies already.

What do you do when you're not volunteering?

I am a full-time student at SAIT, enrolled in the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

I've been living in Alberta for the past two years and when I first started looking for volunteer opportunities in the city, YYC came up among the top suggestions. Having successfully applied, my first day volunteering was incredibly memorable. I felt such immediate joy and quickly fell in love with the airport and its community. I am so honoured to be a part of such a great team.

Thank you Ranj for being part of the YYC White Hat Program. Click here to read more about our White Hat Volunteer Program.

National Volunteer Week runs from April 7 - 13. The Calgary Airport Authority wouldn't be the same without our volunteers. To honour our volunteers during this week, we're profiling one each day during National Volunteer Week. We're also celebrating our White Hatters with a dinner and dance on April 7, and we're thanking our Pre-Board Pals with a fun evening on April 11. Take a moment this week to thank a volunteer. They all make the guest experience extra special here at YYC and we couldn't do it without them.
