Strong collaboration key to YYC digital border transformation

We are excited to report that after months of construction and phased installation, 80 Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK) are now operational at YYC. With the first 61 units, over 60,000 guests completed their declaration electronically. The final 19 PIK units added on June 4 will further assist with processing passengers efficiently through the CBSA hall.

"The successful implementation of the new kiosk platform at YYC represents an outstanding partnership between CBSA and the Calgary Airport," says Mike Maxwell, VP, Infrastructure and CIO.

A very special thank you to the following teams for their dedication, commitment and hard work on this project:

  • CBSA (Chris Brodie, Kellie Mackenzie, Jennifer Aviss and the national team)
  • YYC Operations (Alan Lawn, Collette Stamp, Amanda Wakeford and team)
  • IT (Derek Costain, Lorenzo Cerrato and team)
  • Security (Dean Corradetti and Justin Sangster)
  • Customer Care (Debbie Stahl, Dionne Crutchley, Merilee Adamson, Stephanie Harris, Meagen Knoop and the Ambassadors)
  • Communications & Marketing (Reid Fiest, Brandy Newman, Steve Warme and team)
  • Infrastructure Project Team (Alberto Ruiz, Mary Jan Marquez, Quoc Nguyen, Brad Gaida, Greg Yates, Diogo Mafra, Zahra Nurani)

As we continue our transition to the new units, longer wait times are still possible for arriving passengers. Customer Care Ambassadors will be in support capacity, assisting guests, answering PIK related questions and monitoring lines in International Arrivals.

"We encourage guests to download the CanBorder eDeclaration App (eDec), which can speed up border processing when you arrive into Canada," says Alberto Ruiz, Project Manager, Infrastructure. "To date our app usage exceeds the national average. We appreciate the team's support and collaboration in helping us become the number one in eDec user in Canada."

Please note that with PIK units now fully operational, the E311 cards (the forms that flight attendants would hand out towards the end of the flight so you declare what you're bringing into the country) will no longer be required. No more trying to ask strangers on the plane for a pen to fill out your cards!
