Escalators closing soon in DTB

Starting Sept. 3, guests, Team YYC and Crew will need to take alternative routes from arrivals to departures:

  • stairwells and elevators between Doors 2 and 3 or
  • elevators between Doors 3 and 4.

The escalators will be demolished to make room for a new WestJet non-conveyable baggage elevator. This will allow guests to seamlessly and securely check baggage that cannot go through the regular baggage system such as oversized items or animals.

This is part of the WestJet Check-In Project to maximize the check-in space and provide WestJet with an updated space much like the updated Air Canada check-in space. There will be additional self-service bag drops (SBD) installed to move towards more automation throughout the check-in process. All designs have been completed with future growth of WestJet in mind so that check-in counters can be replaced with SBDs.

WestJet has been working out of a temporary check-in space since August 2018. This check-in refurbishment will be complete by June 2020 (right before Stampede) and will allow WestJet to use the new domestic terminal baggage system.

During this time, we anticipate construction noise and operational impacts as we work to deliver this project. We thank you for your patience as we make improvements to the terminal.

Stay tuned for updated on the project as construction ramps up through until mid-2020.
