YYC to say farewell to SpacePort

After nearly two decades at YYC Calgary International Airport, SpacePort will depart on December 31, 2019. SpacePort has been an important part of the Calgary Airport, but it has outlived its lifespan and so we've made the difficult decision to close its doors. Attendance from walk in traffic and school/community groups have been decreasing over recent years, corporate sponsor agreements have expired, all making subsidizing the operations unsustainable.

Owned by The Calgary Airport Authority, the not-for-profit SpacePort landed at YYC in 2000 and has been managed by Southern Music Limited. Ahead of its time, the facility was full of fresh interactive spaces and aviation themed teaching for all ages. It was home to a moonrock, on loan from NASA, which will be returned to them. For the remainder of 2019, SpacePort will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except for statutory holidays. Any existing 2019 camps or bookings will continue, including sendoff holiday programming.

We would like to thank Southern Music Limited, its staff, our guests and partners for the support of SpacePort over the years. We are working to develop a new kids' education program to ignite the wondere of flight at YYC. Details will be announced when our plan has solidified.
