Speed reduction on Airport Trail for interchanges project starts April 6

Summary: With construction underway the speed limit on Airport Trail east of Deerfoot Trail to Barlow Trail will be reduced to 60 km/h.

The speed limit on Airport Trail between Deerfoot Trail and Barlow Trail will be reduced to 60 km/h on April 6 as work on the interchanges project begins. Motorists, guests and employees traveling to and from the airport will be encouraged to leave extra time in case of construction delays.

For the latest updates on the project, please go to www.calgary.ca/airporttrail.

You can also expect to see:

  • Temporary traffic light installed at Aero Drive and 19 Street N.E. in April
  • The first traffic pattern change will be on Airport Trail near 19 Street N.E. in May where the eastbound lanes will be shifted to the north. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions.

In light of the current pandemic, the City of Calgary and its contractor are ensuring crews will be respecting physical distancing rules and public health advisories to ensure the safety of workers. This project was previously fully funded and will result in the creation of a large number of construction jobs—up to 400 positions with the construction of the interchanges.
